Camping at Upper Colo Reserve
"Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints"
Colo Wilderness has been identified as one of the 20 real wilderness areas remaining in South East Australia.
It is well known for its rugged escarpments, variety of flora and fauna, and pristine waterways. This stunningly beautiful area is surrounded by the vast Wollemi National Park (490 000 hectares), where the recent discovery of the 100 million year old species of Wollemi Pine demonstrates how remote and untouched this area is.
There are many activities to enjoy in this area, however it is advisable when planning any excursions to obtain accurate recent local information.
Upper Colo Reserve is located on the Colo River and covers an area of 13.8 hectares. More than two thirds of this is native bushland with a large cleared area. Upper Colo Reserve is quite isolated but easily accessible by private vehicle and is popular due to its natural beauty, peaceful isolation and low cost. It has very basic camping facilities including toilets and cold showers, but no potable drinking water.
